Day 113: Methven 0 Day
Wednesday, March 22
We woke up around 8 am. The cabin had a fridge, water heater, and toaster so we made some coffee in the cabin and then went to make breakfast in the holiday park's kitchen.
We took our food back to our cabin and listened to the West Wing Weekly podcast for the episode we watched last night.
Once we were ready to head out, we went to the iSite to ask about the weather forecast. It's supposed to rain every day through at least Saturday, but it shouldn't be bad enough to hinder our hiking. We also booked our school bus tickets for tomorrow, went through the plan for the rest of our trip, and called Wayne (he was mentioned in a Facebook post and I think in the trail notes) about organizing a shuttle around the second river hazard.
After spending a bit of time planning stuff in the iSite, I was hungry, so we went to Primo Cafe. The cafe had more knick knacks everywhere than any cafe I've ever seen. I had a delicious sausage roll and savory muffin.
Our next stop was the bank to exchange some money and then we went to the Methven Resort. The lady at the Blue Bar was right. It was only $5 to use the pool and hot tubs there. It was well worth it to soak sore muscles for a bit.
As we were walking back through town to resupply and go to the holiday park, we saw Karolina, Nadine and another TA hiker in a cafe. We talked to them for a bit and went to the Supervalue to get food for this section.
When we were back at the holiday park, we did laundry, used the wifi, and watched a West Wing episode. Then we packed most of our food and went to town to get dinner.
Thai Chili, the restaurant Kevin had told us about, was open so we went there. They had a $20 all-you-can-eat buffet with an ice cream dessert included! It was delicious and I wish Thai buffets were a thing everywhere.
When we were packing food earlier, I realized I had forgotten to get Worthers and a few other things, so we quickly stopped at Supervalue again. You'd think I'd have resupplying down by now. Maybe by the time I get to Bluff!
We walked back to the Holiday Park and I finished downloading podcasts. We tried to pack everything we could so there would be less to do in the morning. The bus was at 6 am, so we had to wake up at 4:30. Around 8:30 we tried to make ourselves go to sleep.
The coffee shop we ate in had tea pots with knit covers. So cute!
A street in Methven.
The ice cream I got with my Thai buffet. It was delicious!
